We are a normal GP practice, looking after public and private patients.

We are 2 doctors, myself and Dr Sinead Beirne, and a nurse (my Mrs Caitriona O’Sullivan, who is practice nurse, midwife, breastfeeding support etc). We share 3 reception staff with the other GP practice.

We provide the full range of GP services, from cradle to grave, including maternity care, cervical screening, childhood and travel vaccination, contraception, health screening, ECG, lung function testing, chronic illness care, blood tests, repeat prescriptions and so on, but we also have some specialized services that are not commonly found in most practices:

  • Minor surgery procedures, from ingrown toenails and cysts to moles and skin cancers, wart freezing etc. We take referrals from all over Dublin and carry out approx. 700 procedures annually
  • We provide ultrasound scanning, including general abdominal scanning, assessment of prostate, aorta, gallstones, uterus, and pregnancy scanning.
  • As a result, we have an extensive maternity practice, participate in shared antenatal care with the hospital, offer midwife care and provide comprehensive breastfeeding support for new parents.
  • We combine ultrasound and surgical skills to find and remove contraceptive implants that get lost in people’s arms
  • We have substantial expertise in diabetes care.

Description

‘Summer Surf Streedagh’ is an acrylic painting created on a triple primed wooden board. I was inspired to do a painting of the view from Streedagh’s beach. It’s just one of those breathtaking places along Sligo’s Wild Atlantic Way.

This piece was an experimental one. I had bought some really excellent quality paints and this was the piece to go mad on! I loved the fluidity and surface quality of them and they behaved just like the oils I normally use.  The colours here are very intense and I wanted to create that feeling of being somewhere warm. One can dream, yes!? Letting go and just going where the painting takes me. I knew I wanted to paint this view, but I didn’t know how I wanted to create the water.

Looking back I feel this painting gives the viewer a wild but calming portrayal of waters consisting of turquoise blues, greens, crisp whites and a balmy sunset sky. But not forgetting the actual view of Donegal’s Slieve League mountains across the bay.

These waters share more than just a beautiful location, it has a rich history as it is the final resting place of a small fleet of the Spanish Armada which came aground on treacherous rocks in a storm in September 1588. On a more current note, Streedagh is also a fantastic surfers paradise. So I guess I wanted the painting to exude this fact, the surf here is perfect for amateurs and professionals alike.

A little beyond Streedagh Bay is the little village of Mullaghmore, another great place for surfing which attracts professionals the world over. This coastline of Sligo’s Wild Atlantic Way certainly does live up to its name,  I am always inspired by the power and vitality the sea commands especially around these parts. This is what I like to create in my work.
