Eve’s Plain is an ancient name for the townland of Maugherow in North County Sligo. This is a view from the back of an old cottage in Raughley I rented a few years ago. I was always captured by the wild scenery of this countryside surrounding this idyllic place with its beautiful coastal walks.
Whistling reed beds, the burnt ochres and browns of the bogland and gorse scrub dot this landscape lead up to Knocklane Hill. It’s promontory fort dates back to the Iron age and was used many times as a line of defence against marauders, its cliffs lead to a convergence between Sligo bay and Donegal bay. I have always loved this area as the changing seasons depict the colours of the landscape, Beyond this scene a deluge of rain comes over this landscape creating the mood of the land.
