Eve’s Plain is an ancient place name given to Maugherow in North Sligo. This is a view from the townland of Cloonagh where my father and his family come from, up from the shore his parent’s cottage is featured. Many a day he and his siblings farmed the land and then like his father fished the waters along the coastline. It’s where hardy generations have grown, some have remained drawn by its beauty and some have emigrated to Britain and America to find a more comfortable life.
The scene is a typical Irish north western day with moody atmospheric skies coming in from the wild Atlantic with a promise of sun displayed in the farmed land of the foreground.
Many of my paintings are from around this area of North Sligo and the wild Atlantic Way. For me these areas are where nature is it’s most savage, wild and most beautiful – a result of the changing weather
