We are a normal GP practice, looking after public and private patients.

We are 2 doctors, myself and Dr Sinead Beirne, and a nurse (my Mrs Caitriona O’Sullivan, who is practice nurse, midwife, breastfeeding support etc). We share 3 reception staff with the other GP practice.

We provide the full range of GP services, from cradle to grave, including maternity care, cervical screening, childhood and travel vaccination, contraception, health screening, ECG, lung function testing, chronic illness care, blood tests, repeat prescriptions and so on, but we also have some specialized services that are not commonly found in most practices:

  • Minor surgery procedures, from ingrown toenails and cysts to moles and skin cancers, wart freezing etc. We take referrals from all over Dublin and carry out approx. 700 procedures annually
  • We provide ultrasound scanning, including general abdominal scanning, assessment of prostate, aorta, gallstones, uterus, and pregnancy scanning.
  • As a result, we have an extensive maternity practice, participate in shared antenatal care with the hospital, offer midwife care and provide comprehensive breastfeeding support for new parents.
  • We combine ultrasound and surgical skills to find and remove contraceptive implants that get lost in people’s arms
  • We have substantial expertise in diabetes care.

Bent Grass II – Sligo Coastline Paintings

Bent Grass II is the second of two oil paintings I did of my local beach on the Sligo Coast. This is a section of the sand dunes on John’s Port beach at Lissadell. Having grown up in the area I always loved this beach. It was a playground to me and my siblings. We would often play hide and seek, chase even amongst the bent grass in the dunes. It was jaggy on the legs though, so we wouldn’t venture in too deep!

The Bent Grass is like a moving body or a murmuration of starlings. It twists, turns, flattens and springs up again with the wind. The textures, the colours and the contrasts between it and the sands are what draws me. It’s a visual feast for my eyes, that’s why I was inspired to paint it.

I never knew this as a child but apparently bent grass was sown all along the Sligo Coast and many other seaboard counties to stabilise the shifting sands. The method by Lord Palmerston in the 1800’s for Sligo saved the land from the sands. Many houses and farmland this had been completely covered threatening to make the landscape into a Sahara.

In 2021 I had the privilege of being a part of a local book launch called ‘ Maugherow – Beneath the blowing Sands’. A piece of my work is featured in the book along with other fellow Sligo Artists, Poets and Storytellers. It was a wonderful event which highlighted the danger of coastal erosion for both its people and the environment. If you would like to know more about this part of Sligo’s history, Click Here
