We are a normal GP practice, looking after public and private patients.

We are 2 doctors, myself and Dr Sinead Beirne, and a nurse (my Mrs Caitriona O’Sullivan, who is practice nurse, midwife, breastfeeding support etc). We share 3 reception staff with the other GP practice.

We provide the full range of GP services, from cradle to grave, including maternity care, cervical screening, childhood and travel vaccination, contraception, health screening, ECG, lung function testing, chronic illness care, blood tests, repeat prescriptions and so on, but we also have some specialized services that are not commonly found in most practices:

  • Minor surgery procedures, from ingrown toenails and cysts to moles and skin cancers, wart freezing etc. We take referrals from all over Dublin and carry out approx. 700 procedures annually
  • We provide ultrasound scanning, including general abdominal scanning, assessment of prostate, aorta, gallstones, uterus, and pregnancy scanning.
  • As a result, we have an extensive maternity practice, participate in shared antenatal care with the hospital, offer midwife care and provide comprehensive breastfeeding support for new parents.
  • We combine ultrasound and surgical skills to find and remove contraceptive implants that get lost in people’s arms
  • We have substantial expertise in diabetes care.

Oil Painting Classes- Online with Zoom

New Classes – Starting May 2023

Oil Painting Online Zoom Classes – All subject matter

Póilín will be hosting a set of six classes on Friday mornings from (10.30 – 12.30 am) starting on the 5th of May to the 9th of June.

All levels are welcome! Beginners to advanced.

There are limited places available for social interaction; this number is twelve, as any more it would be difficult to engage with participants.

About Oil Paints

Oil paint is a type of slow-drying paint that consists of particles of pigment suspended in a drying oil, commonly linseed oil. The viscosity of the paint can be changed by the addition of a solvent such as turpentine or and odourless spirit such as Sansodor or Zest it, and varnish may be added to increase the glossiness of the dried oil paint film later on.

The Six Week Course – Step by step painting

Areas covered below will be from the very start of a painting to the finish, it’s a continual process whereas Póilín will paint with you and show you the mixing of colours on the palette to application of paint to the canvas.

Every step is explained thoroughly through close-up camera work along with lighting ensuring high clarity for the participant.

Each painting roughly takes from one to three lessons to complete depending on subject matter. Paintings will take from a day to four days to dry, which is perfect for the following session. Also included are painting exercises in tips and techniques.

At the end of the six weeks, each participant will have their very own completed paintings.

Areas covered
  • Composition- how to construct a balanced painting
  • Colour mixing- how to mix colour- complimentary colours, tonal values
  • Application of oil paint- methods and techniques with particular brushes, palette knives and other objects
  • What do I do with a certain brush/ palette knife/ what sized canvas
  • Subjects covered will be Still life, landscape, seascape and figurative.
  • Genres will include representational and abstract painting.

Class Reviews

"I’ve just completed an 8-week Oil painting course with Póilín and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve learned so much about colour mixing and applying paint using different techniques. Would highly recommend this course. I’ll be signing up for the next one!"

“I’ve attended the Open-Door Gallery and Studio prior to Covid 19. Both Póilín and Tan are inspirational. I loved going there. As I can’t go in person at the moment, I have just completed an online eight-week course with Póilín. We painted in oil. Even though I couldn’t meet the other ladies, the atmosphere was great and we enjoyed many laughs. Póilín is an accomplished artist so all her tips and advice were brilliant and most helpful. We all ended up with good pieces of work. I’m so pleased, that I intend joining up again for her next round of workshops. While we were all reasonably experienced, her classes would also be suitable for beginners and less experienced artists. I wish her the best of success in these difficult times. Working with her has motivated me to pick up my paintbrush after months of inertia.”
