We are a normal GP practice, looking after public and private patients.

We are 2 doctors, myself and Dr Sinead Beirne, and a nurse (my Mrs Caitriona O’Sullivan, who is practice nurse, midwife, breastfeeding support etc). We share 3 reception staff with the other GP practice.

We provide the full range of GP services, from cradle to grave, including maternity care, cervical screening, childhood and travel vaccination, contraception, health screening, ECG, lung function testing, chronic illness care, blood tests, repeat prescriptions and so on, but we also have some specialized services that are not commonly found in most practices:

  • Minor surgery procedures, from ingrown toenails and cysts to moles and skin cancers, wart freezing etc. We take referrals from all over Dublin and carry out approx. 700 procedures annually
  • We provide ultrasound scanning, including general abdominal scanning, assessment of prostate, aorta, gallstones, uterus, and pregnancy scanning.
  • As a result, we have an extensive maternity practice, participate in shared antenatal care with the hospital, offer midwife care and provide comprehensive breastfeeding support for new parents.
  • We combine ultrasound and surgical skills to find and remove contraceptive implants that get lost in people’s arms
  • We have substantial expertise in diabetes care.

Acrylic Painting Classes - Online with Zoom

New Classes – Starting May 2023

Acrylic Painting Online Zoom Classes – All subject matter

Póilín will be hosting a set of six week classes on Tuesday mornings from (10.30 to 12.30 pm) starting on the 16th of May to the 20th of June.

All levels are welcome! Beginners to advanced.

There are limited places available for social interaction; this number is 12, as any more it would be difficult to engage with participants.

About Acrylic Paints

Acrylics are a wonderful paint to try out. Their makeup is composed of a vehicle called polymer, a plastic component which binds the pigment together. They’re versatile, quick drying and are water-based. Once dried, they cannot be reactivated, i.e., watercolour/gouache. But layering the paint is a fantastic way to build up your painting. They don’t fade over time, are robust and dry to a hard finish. Lots of mediums can be used with them to manipulate their viscosity, transparency, opacity, texture and surface quality. These paints are great when first trying out painting for the first time.

The Six Week Course – Step by step painting

Areas covered below will be from the very start of a painting to the finish, it’s a continual process whereas Póilín will paint with you and show you the mixing of colours on the palette to application of paint to the canvas.

Every step is explained thoroughly through close-up camera work along with lighting ensuring high clarity for the participant.

Each painting roughly takes about one to three lessons to complete depending on subject matter. Also included are painting exercises in tips and techniques.

 Areas covered
  • Composition- how to construct a balanced painting
  • Colour mixing- how to mix colour- complimentary colours, tonal values
  • Application of oil paint- methods and techniques with particular brushes, palette knives and other objects
  • What do I do with a certain brush/ palette knife/ what sized canvas
  • Subjects covered will be Still life, landscape, seascape and figurative.

Class Reviews

I have been doing online / zoom painting classes with Póilín for the past few months. I can’t recommend her classes enough. The time absolutely flies in. We are learning more and more every week and having a lot of fun too. I have ended up with paintings I had no idea I could achieve and will happily frame them and put them in pride of place on the walls. The classes are certainly the highlight of my lockdown.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for the last few weeks in the Open-Door Gallery Online Acrylics Class. It has been great. I was a bit cautious doing an art class over zoom but it really has worked out brilliantly. The classes are fun, informative and at a pace where no one is left behind. I feel I’ve learned so much and I’ve grown in confidence using the techniques you ‘ve shown us as well as mixing colours. I’ll definitely sign up for another course and recommend you to anyone looking to learn how to paint, from the comfort of their own home in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Thanks again

When my friend asked me if I wanted to join her online to do a bit of painting, I had no idea I would enjoy it so much and look forward to my few hours ‘Me Time’. In traditional classes I struggle to stay focused as I get distracted easily. The online art classes with the knowledge and kindness of Póilin allowed me to learn, be creative and stay focused. In a few weeks I look at clouds, skies and rivers completely differently than I did before. (now I'm looking for mid-tones) Póilin makes learning so enjoyable. I feel I now have an idea of colours, colour mixing, use of mediums and my favourite part was learning how to make waves. Thank you!
